A black stain appeared in the middle of an eighteen month old gymnasium floor. The contractor stated the floor must have been scorched by others.
We found that the floor was damp. The floor was opened up and a nail was found through the under floor heating pipework. The black staining had been caused by rust staining from a steel floor nail
The contractor repaired the pipe and reinstated the floor locally. We argued that the water leak represented a risk to the whole floor. Our investigations, proved that the whole floor…. (contd)
…had raised moisture levels and was at risk. The floor was removed and wet rot was found. The subfloor was then dried by a specialist company and the timber floor replaced.
